The Walking Dead: Season 1, Episode 1. On a deserted road, Sheriff's Deputy Rick Grimes pulls his police cruiser past overturned cars to a gas station. Vehicles filled with dead bodies litter the grounds; a sign hanging nearby declares .
Her lips and right cheek have been torn away, blood dripping. She starts toward Rick, growling.
As she approaches, Rick draws his gun and shoots her in the head. Earlier, Rick and his partner Shane eat hamburgers in their car and joke about the differences between men and women. When the conversation turns to Rick's wife Lori, Rick turns somber. He explains that Lori recently accused him of not caring about his family in front of their son, Carl. Rick and Shane head to the scene, where they lay down a spike strip.

As they wait for the car, a young officer, Leon Bassett, muses about their chances of getting on a police chase reality show. The car approaches, pursued by two more cruisers. When it hits the spike strip, it flips off the road.
Rick approaches the overturned car. Two men emerge from the wreckage; one shoots Rick in his Kevlar vest. The other officers gun them down. His back turned, Rick fails to notice a third gunman crawling from the car. The man fires and hits Rick in the side, where his vest does not protect him.
He falls to the ground bleeding, then passes out. Shane delivers flowers to Rick in the hospital, but Rick isn't fully conscious or at all aware of what's going on. Rick wakes in the hospital room, unshaven and sweaty. He calls for Shane, then notices the flowers have wilted and died.

- On a dirt path, Sunny rides a motorcycle through a vast field of poppies. He slows when he spots an overturned transport beside a collection of dead.
Rick exits his room. The hallway is dark and disheveled. He goes to the nurse's station and tries the phone: it's dead. Through a doorway, Rick sees the ravaged body of a nurse missing most of her skin. Further down the hall, the walls are covered in blood and riddled with bullet holes. A double door has been chained shut, a message scrawled across: .
As he reaches for it, the body of a woman — badly decayed, her legs and lips missing — turns and reaches for him, pathetically moaning in hunger. Rick speeds away on the bicycle. Rick arrives at his home to find the front door ajar and the house deserted. Sobbing on the floor, he calls for Lori and Carl. Outside the house, Rick spots a man stumbling down the road. Monk Season 8 Builds. A young boy creeps up from behind and hits Rick with a shovel. The boy's father, Morgan, approaches the stumbling man and shoots him in the head, then walks to Rick.
Rick searches for his family after emerging from a coma into a world terrorized by the walking dead. Morgan and Duane, whom he meets along the way, help teach Rick.
Rick passes out. Rick wakes up tied to a bed. The boy, Duane, stands guard with a baseball bat. Now they're all over the street. Bites kill, he explains, then you become one of them. A car alarm goes off. Rick and Morgan peer out to the street, which is filled with walkers, drawn by the noise of the alarm. When a woman wearing a nightgown appears, Duane runs away crying.
The woman walks to the front door and tries to open it. I just didn't have it in me.
She's the mother of my child. Rick swings the bat, beating the walker down until it stops moving. Rick tells Morgan he thinks his wife and son are still alive: He found empty drawers in his house, and the family pictures were gone. Morgan explains there's a refugee center there with military protection and food.
The Center for Disease Control — where they're rumored to be working on a cure — is also in Atlanta. Rick, Morgan and Duane head to the police station, where they luxuriate in hot showers. Afterward, Rick packs a duffel bag with guns.
He hands Morgan a rifle. Rick loads the weapons in the trunk of his cruiser and prepares to set off for Atlanta.
Morgan says he'll follow in a few days, once he and Duane have learned to shoot. Rick hands Morgan a walkie- talkie, instructing him to turn it on every day at dawn to make contact.
Morgan leaves Rick with a warning: ? Man, you watch your ass. Leon claws at the chain link fence separating them. Rick shoots him in the forehead. Back home, Morgan takes the rifle upstairs and positions it facing the street. He begins shooting walkers. But when she appears, he's still unable to shoot her.
Rick returns to the park where he found the legless walker. In a camp outside the city, a group of survivors receive the transmission, but can't get a reply through. Shane, Lori and Carl are among them, but they don't recognize Rick's voice over the garbled transmission. Lori thinks they should put signs up warning people away from the city and volunteers to go on her own.
Shane argues that venturing out is too risky. Privately, Shane tells Lori she can't run off half cocked; she needs to keep it together for Carl who has lost so much already. Lori agrees, and they kiss passionately.
Out of gas, Rick abandons his car on the highway and heads out on foot. He approaches a farmhouse where he makes the grisly discovery that a man has shot his wife and committed suicide. Rick finds a horse nearby, saddles up, and rides the rest of the way to Atlanta.
Rick rides into the devastated city of Atlanta. He searches the streets on horseback, finding an overrun military blockade. Rick hears a helicopter pass overhead. He tries to follow it, but rides straight into a horde of walkers. The undead swarm Rick's horse, toppling him. Rick scrambles underneath an abandoned tank, but walkers grab at him from both ends.
Rick shoots several of them, then places the gun to his temple. Looking up, he sees an open hatch underneath the tank. He crawls inside. Inside, a dead soldier turns to bite Rick. Walkers surround the tank as Rick seals himself inside, with no idea what he'll do next. The tank's radio crackles.
Into the Badlands: Season 1, Episode 1. On a dirt path, Sunny rides a motorcycle through a vast field of poppies. He slows when he spots an overturned transport beside a collection of dead bodies covered in flies, arranged execution- style. He picks up a set of empty shackles: someone got away. Scanning the horizon with his telescope, he sees smoke rising from the woods in the distance. In the woods, Sunny approaches a group of Nomads and asks about the dead cogs in the field.
The men feign ignorance, but Sunny says the transport belonged to his Baron. The Nomads stand to their feet, weapons at the ready. Sunny welcomes the challenge of the surrounding men and takes them all out one by one. Sunny picks up a fallen coin from the dirt and studies the image of a butterfly and an oil rig imprinted on it. He cuts the lock off the trunk and M.
K., the missing cog, bursts out. Sunny asks M. K. They stop to salute Sunny. M. K. An air- raid siren goes off. The Baron, Quinn, strides in with a bible.
He beckons Sunny and orders him to take off his vest. Sunny reveals his torso tattooed with 4. He asks the boys if they want to follow in Sunny's footsteps. The recruits holler in excitement. At the Colt compound, Quinn asks M.
K. He tells Sunny to keep an eye on M. K. Ryder, Quinn's son, approaches. Observing the butterfly coin Sunny found, Ryder says another Baron is moving against them. Quinn insists that murdering her husband doesn't make The Widow worthy of the Baron title, but Ryder reminds him of her importance: . Quinn sides with Sunny. In the pit, Ajax rips a silver pendant from M. K.'s neck. Bale, another recruit, warns M.
K. Lydia suggests he rest and let Ryder take on more responsibility. Ryder walks in and asks about the pendant. Hiding his compass, Sunny hands the pendant over. Ryder tells him they need to move against The Widow. Sunny says Quinn already made his decision, but Ryder says Quinn just agreed with Sunny .
Lydia acknowledges the Baron's entitlement to multiple wives. He makes his way to the clinic where Veil fits a prosthetic hand to a patient's wrist. She smiles at Sunny. In Veil's apartment above the clinic, Sunny and Veil lie post- coital in bed. Sunny practices reading and puts the book down. They kiss until Veil backs away and tells Sunny she's pregnant.
Stunned, Sunny immediately tells her they can't keep it as he'd be put to death. Veil suggests they escape the Badlands, but he says there's nothing . Moving at superhuman speed, M. K. He catches a shard of glass in mid- air and flings it into Ajax's eye. Sunny turns the corner and watches in astonishment as M. K.'s eyes turn back to normal and he passes out. M. K. Sunny pulls out his compass and M.
K. Sunny asks if he knows how to get there, but M. K. Sunny stands in the rain in front of Veil's clinic, but turns away. On the street, Sunny spots four black- clad Clippers approaching him, swords drawn. Sunny draws his blade as they all swing at him simultaneously. A woman watches from a white car while Sunny kills all of the men.
The car door opens. One woman holds an umbrella for The Widow as she steps out. The Widow asks Sunny to bring her M. K., but Sunny refuses.
Back at the Fort, Bale tells M. K. Ryder catches him and pins him. Lydia hears the commotion and asks Ryder about the pendant.
Ryder says he wants to execute M. K. Realizing he's going to die, M. K. Sunny says he'll never be able to keep that promise.
He slices M. K.'s shackles and frees him. Now you do. Lydia watches from the house.
Sunny reports to Quinn's study. Quinn tells Sunny he caught him staring beyond the walls and wants him to move closer to the house so he can better defend the Fort.
